English Translation
Memories of a Trip to Hokkaido
Last summer, I finally got to go on my long-dreamed-of trip to Hokkaido. Hokkaido boasts not only breathtaking nature but also an abundance of fresh seafood and dairy products. These attractions draw in countless tourists, not just from all over Japan but from overseas as well.
First, I visited Sapporo. I strolled through Odori Park, visiting landmarks such as the Clock Tower and the red-brick Former Hokkaido Government Office Building. In the evening, on the recommendation of a local friend, I tried Genghis Khan for the first time. The combination of fragrant meat and fresh vegetables was superb, and the sake kept flowing. Sapporo was more urban than I had imagined, bustling with tourists.
The next day, I went to Otaru. While enjoying a canal cruise, I visited various glass craft shops. Historical buildings lined the streets, and I was captivated by the exotic atmosphere of the townscape. For lunch, I naturally savored a fresh seafood bowl. Otaru truly reaffirmed its place as one of Hokkaido's many charms.
For the latter half of the trip, I went to see the vast scenery of Biei and Furano. Vibrant lavender fields stretched out, looking just like a painting. It was an experience that cleansed my soul, something I don't usually get to feel in my daily life. Amidst Hokkaido's magnificent nature, I was able to forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I truly realized that experiencing nature's beauty firsthand is simply incomparable to seeing it in photographs.
Thanks to this trip, I've come to love Hokkaido. I hope to visit again in the near future. I'd especially love to see the snowy landscapes of winter. If you get the chance, I highly recommend visiting Hokkaido.
